Distracted driving is a problem in Georgia, and to combat that problem, they passed a law saying that it is illegal for a person to hold a cell phone or any other type of computer device while they’re driving an automobile. They call it the hands-free law. If you are caught or if you receive a citation for violating the hands-free law, you’ll have to go to court. But what some people don’t know is that within the statute, there’s an out. You basically get one free bite at the apple, so to speak. If you purchase a hands-free device like AirPods or a holder to hold onto your cell phone while you’re driving, bring proof of that with you to court, and the court will dismiss it. But you only get to do that once. You get caught a second time, there’s no getting out of that citation.
