Scam Warning: Fake Calls Claiming You Missed Jury Duty

So we’ve been getting a lot of phone calls from friends, mostly about this scam that’s going around, and it is a very convincing scam. So I just kind of want to put a video out there and let you all know that if you get a phone call from someone claiming to be with the local Sheriff’s Department and these phone calls are convincing. I have seen the way the phone calls come up on your phone. It’ll even say maybe Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office on the phone whenever they call, and they are claiming that you have missed jury duty. Some of them also claim that you missed serving on the grand jury. And those are things that you’re probably not all that familiar with because most normal people aren’t familiar with how that process works. And they’re trying to sort of tap into your uncertainty, your lack of knowledge about how our jury system works. And they claim that you missed jury duty and that there is now a warrant out for your arrest. And then, unless you pay a certain fee to have that warrant lifted, they’re going to come and arrest you. It’s false. It is a scam. It is a disgusting scam. It is not true. That is not how our system works. You should go to jury duty. But if you don’t go to jury duty, they’re not going to come to your house and lock you up. And they’re certainly not going to lock you up if you pay a certain fee. That’s utter nonsense. It really frustrates me that people try to take advantage of other folks using this scam. But please, do not fall for it. And if you get one of those calls, call your local law enforcement, and hopefully they can track down the people who are doing this to folks.
