After a Car Accident, You Don’t Owe the Other Driver’s Insurance Company Anything

So you’re involved in a car wreck and it doesn’t take long for you to start receiving emails and text messages and phone calls from the car insurance company for the car that hurt you in the wreck. And a lot of times they will send you a text or an email saying things like, in order to maintain your claim, click this button, sign this document so that we can get your medical records. It’s a completely inappropriate tactic. You do not have to provide the liability insurer with anything. Absolutely nothing. They’re not entitled to look at your medical records. They’re not entitled to look at your past medical treatment. They’re not entitled to take a statement from you. All they have to do is answer for their driver’s legal liability for the harm they caused you. And you don’t have to tell them anything about any of that treatment until the time comes for you to hold them accountable.
